In recent years, people have become increasingly aware that cosmetics, like everything else, harm the environment. But how and where exactly do cosmetics pollute it?

In order to assess the environmental impact of a product, the entire life cycle must always be considered. In other words, from the production of the raw materials to their processing, packaging, logistics and application or use. And, of course, what happens to the product or its individual components afterwards.

In the case of cosmetics, the question of where the ingredients of creams, lotions, make-up, etc. end up is particularly interesting. Do you want everything to be absorbed by the skin and enter your body? All the parabens, fats, emulsifiers, stabilisers, perfumes, oils and everything else contained in a cream? Probably not, right?

We can reassure you that the cycle is relatively simple: very little of a cream actually penetrates the skin, as creams consist of up to 95% fat, emulsifiers and stabilisers. And it is precisely these additives that end up in the water the next time you wash your face. Microplastic particles are now on everyone's lips and have been recognised as massively harmful.

However, this is not the case with all the other ingredients in creams, which are dumped into nature, i.e. our waters, in enormous quantities and are difficult to break down.

Creams, therefore, not only pollute our skin with their additives, but also the waters of the entire planet.
Filabé wanted to find out for sure and commissioned a life cycle assessment from one of the world's leading independent institutes. And not just for our products, but also for creams.

Not for every cream, of course, but for an average, cream-based skincare routine. The results leave no room for doubt — they are too obvious to ignore.

Filabé has decisive advantages and is therefore exemplary in environmental protection

Filabé is exemplary in this overall view and has a decisive advantage over conventional cosmetics — we combine several products in one: scrubs, cleansing and care products.

This fact also means: fewer raw materials, less manufacturing effort, less packaging and consequently much less waste.

No chemicals in wastewater thanks to Filabé

We source our raw materials from the Mibelle Group, one of the world's leading Swiss manufacturers of cosmetic active ingredients, produced in accordance with Swiss environmental standards.

Thanks to smart technology, Filabé does not require alcohol, fragrances or preservatives and therefore contains no harmful additives that leave harmful traces in wastewater. This is only possible because the active ingredients are incorporated into the fibres of the care cloth in dry form. In addition, Filabé is not washed off during cleaning. The active ingredients are therefore hardly released into the environment.

A unique recycling system

Filabé has developed a unique recycling system: You send the used wipes back to us free of charge, and we put them to a new use outside of cosmetics.

This makes us the first and only recyclable and water-friendly facial care product in the world today. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Filabé is eco-certified

Filabé is also eco-certified for textiles used close to the skin (product class II). The independent testing and certification system includes testing for harmful substances according to the following criteria:

  • legally prohibited substances;
  • legally regulated substances;
  • chemicals known to be harmful to health (but not yet legally regulated);
  • as well as parameters for health care.

«We are convinced that Filabé is a very environmentally friendly cosmetic product. We believe that we have a clear ecological advantage over other skincare approaches, starting with the sourcing and manufacturing of our products. However, it is our recycling concept that makes the biggest difference. We invite you to join us in protecting the environment!»
