“My skin is shiny around the T-zone (forehead and nose) and dry on the cheeks. What facial wipes would you recommend for me?” This is a question we are asked almost daily. The following article deals with the phenomenon and care of combination skin.

T-zone and periphery.

Combination skin differs from other skin types in that it is neither completely dry nor normally moist or oily and shiny. Instead, it is a combination of normal and oily skin or dry and oily skin in different areas of the face. In the cosmetics industry this is referred to as combination skin, which usually consists of two zones: the “T-zone” and the “periphery.” The “T-zone” consists of the forehead, nose and chin areas, which together make the shape of a T. The cheeks form the periphery of the face.

Treating the oily T-zone.

The density of sebum-producing sebaceous glands is highest in the T-zone, which is why greasy shine and enlarged pores typically occur in this area. Oily skin also tends to develop blemishes, such as spots and blackheads, since the pores become blocked with excess sebum. A good cleansing and skincare routine that regulates sebum production is therefore ideal for this area of the skin.

Treating the normal or dry periphery.

The periphery of combination skin is usually normal or dry and raw around the facial contours. Dry skin tends to be flaky, red and itchy. Often the pores in this area of skin are less visible; however, fine lines and wrinkles are more pronounced. The overly sensitive periphery therefore requires gentle cleansing and nourishment with moisture-preserving, smoothing and calming ingredients.

Facial care with Filabé for combination skin.

The question as to which of our Filabé wipes are suitable for combination skin is therefore justified. Our Filabé Skin Clear wipes are particularly suitable for the T-zone. The ingredient Chinese astralagus (Astragalus membranaceus) has anti-inflammatory properties, clears blemishes and regulates the skin's sebum production. For normal or dry areas of the skin, we recommend our Filabé Essential Care or Filabé Anti-Aging wipes, depending on personal requirements. The ingredient prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) in Filabé Essential Care soothes dry, irritated and stressed skin. The supplementary active ingredients also retain moisture and smooth and nourish the skin. The active ingredient used in Filabé Anti-Aging is soy isoflavone. This ingredient activates the production of new collagen support fibers, firming and lifting the skin and reducing wrinkles. The supplementary ingredients support this effect and provide intensive nourishment.
Two perfect solutions for different skin requirements. But what is the best way to combine these two products?

Creativity squared.

We recommend the following skincare routine:

• Use Filabé Skin Clear for the oily T-zone and…
• Filabé Balanced Skin, Filabé Irritated Skin or Filabé Aging Skin Balanced for the periphery.

To avoid having to use two wipes each time, one wipe can also easily be cut into two so that it can be used for two applications. This is also kinder on your wallet. Depending on personal requirements and the condition of your skin, the wipes may also be used as the following: Two towels each day. Filabé Skin Clear Young or Adult in the evening and Balanced Skin, Filabé Irritated Skin or Filabé Aging Skin Balanced in the morning.

Should you still feel the need to apply a moisturizing cream after using the wipes then do so. However, applying moisturizer to the area just treated with Filabé Skin Clear is not recommended.
